Birthday Special – Sachin’s most Destructive Inning

Dedicated To The God Of Indian Cricket – Master Blaster ‘Sachin Tendulkar’

He came as a kid but ruled like a BOSS whether it is abroad, sub continent or even our hearts. Everyone loved him playing, doesn’t matters Indian or foreigner. Every corner of the world loved to shout “SACHIN,SACHIN….SACHIN,SACHIN” and he raised his bat 396  times (more than 400, if we include raising bat while achieving milestones like completing 10,000 runs in test cricket etc) in international cricket to salute the crowd : for a half-century (264 times), century (100 times), 150 (25 times) or a double century (7 times) – thus, he proved his worth.  He was once “One Man of Army” for indian cricket before entry of Ganguly and Dravid and later he played the role of builder, anchor and most important, inspiration for indian batting order. We, as an audience have came across many memorable inning by GOD of cricket but a rare inning and the most destructive one may have gone unnoticed by many fans.

Young Sachin Tendulkar (11)

What a knock it was against New Zealand! It was the Super Max International, played in December, 2002 featuring two 10-over innings for each team. The concept was introduced by the late Martin Crowe (Former New Zealand Captain). Regarding the rules, if you hit the ball straight into the MAX ZONE between mid-off and mid-on you get double the runs and hence, it could turn four into eight and six into twelve.

India were playing in absence of Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid as they were rested for the match. Tendulkar had never played this format but being genius of cricket, he eaisly adapted to the format and smashed 72 runs off 27 deliveries during first inning. He pulled the ball thrices into MAXZONE which includes two 8s and one 12. He plundered the bowling as Tama Canning and Jacob Oram went for 25 runs each off successive overs. He also picked up 5 wickets across 2 innings and snatched Man of  the Match award. But unfortunately he played  brilliantly for the losing side as India eventually lost the match by 21 runs. At one stage during 2nd inning kiwis were struggling but an over by part time off spinner, Virender Sehwag turned the game as he went for 31 runs. Remaining task was completed by Andre Adams for destroying Indian batting line in 2nd inning.
