Not feeling sleepy? Here’s why!

SLEEP. Who doesn’t want to sleep? Once we get into bed, we often find very difficult to get out of it when the alarm rings in the morning. Good sleep is not only essential but also something we look forward to after a day’s exhaustive routine. But…… do you struggle to get sleep even though you are tired? Do you stay awake for hours at night waiting for sleep or do you get up at midnight and wait anxiously to sleep again?

Just imagine,you are unable to have some sleep even after having ‘SEX’ with your wife. This is insomnia with its worst effect. Well, sleeplessness or insomnia as you call it, is a common problem which affects your health, mood and you day’s routine adversely.


Insomnia is not defined by the number of hours you sleep but by the quality of your sleep. You may feel tired and not energetic even after sleeping for adequate number of hours. If this is so, then you may be suffering from insomnia. Insomnia varies from person to person in degrees of severity and their causes too.

There could be different reasons of sleepless nights like work pressure, overburdened with responsibilities or it could also occur simply due to excessive intake of caffeine. Besides, there could be some serious medical problem too. To sum up, anxiety, depression, hypertension are some of the causes of sleeplessness.

Insomnia may cause due to temporary reasons like:

  • Stress
  • Cough and cold
  • Jet lag
  • Upcoming important event
  • Might be due to your ‘Break up’
  • Examination or result
  • Financial crisis
  • Any of your wrong deeds

It may also however, last long. A chronic insomnia is generally due to some serious physical or mental issue which may need a medical treatment. In fact, treating the underlying psychological issue is the key to curing insomnia.

However, to identify the cause of insomnia one needs to identify the symptoms attached to it.

  • Find difficult to sleep despite being tired.
  • Need sleeping pills to sleep
  • Frequently waking up at night
  • Sleeps late but wakes up early
  • Difficulty in falling asleep once awake
  • Surfing through your cell phone to see if that can help you in getting some sleep

The five letter word “sleep” is very important for sustaining a healthy life. Lack of sleep causes irritability, agitation and several unwanted behavioral traits. So, before you suffer from a chronic insomnia, identify the cause and symptoms and get the required help.
