Presenting Best Bowling Figures in T20 International
T20, the shorter most of cricket where time is limited to think and execute. Batsman tries to score as many run as possible and it is very rare to for a bowler to take Fifer ( 5 Wicket to haul) in stipulated 4 Overs. If we look into top 5 bowling performance in T20 International, we will see it is dominated by Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Among 5 performances, only 3 bowlers are involved – Twice Ajantha Mendis (Sri Lanka), Twice Umar Gul (Pakistan) and one fifer by Rangana Herath (Sri Lanka). Ajantha Mendis is only to take 6 wickets in T20I and surprisingly, he did it twice.
1) Ajantha Mendis 4-2-8-6 against Zimbabwe
18 sep 2012, Zimbabwe chasing the target of 183 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota Bowled out for 100 and Mendis was main cause of opponent’s destruction.And most important, It was world T20 match and Mendis bowled best bowling till date in world T20 history and also became first to take 6 wickets in World T20.
2) Ajantha Mendis 4-1-16-6 against Australia
8 Aug 2011, By virtue of Jayawardhane’s 86 Srilanka gave a chaseable target 158 to Australia but Finally, Srilanka won the thriller by 8 runs at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, kandy and Ajantha Mendis became first to pick up 6 wickets in T20 International.
3) Rangana Herath 3.3-2-3-5 against New Zealand
31 Mar 2014, Again a World T20 match played at chittagong .Sri lankans were bowled out for 119 and target set was nothing infront of destructive kiwi batting line up. Then, came a magical and most economic spell in the history of T20 international and only williamson scored in 2 digits with top score of 42 and four batsman didn’t even opened their account.Kiwis were all out for 60 and Herath was absolutely brilliant with economy of just 0.85.
4) Umar Gul 3-0-6-5 against New zealand
13 Jun 2009 , World T20 match played at Kennington Oval, London. Pakistan fully dominated kiwis by restricting them to just 99 and won the match eaisly by 6 wickets with 41 balls remaining.The hero of victory was Umar Gul this time.
5) Umar Gul 2.2-0-6-5 against South Africa
3 March 2013 , Match was played at SuperSport Park Centurion where Pakistan batting first put a target of 196 to chase. The top contribution were Mohammad Hafeez (86) and Ahmed Shehzad (46). South Africa surrendered against pakistani attacked and somehow managed to score to exact triple figure i.e 100. [ Note : It is only match in this list where Man of the match was a batsman i.e. Mohammad Hafeez Rather than bowler taking fifer ]
